7 Deadly Zins

Came across a beautiful poem the other day, that talks about the Seven Cardinal Sins (the sins are not mentioned in any particular order in the poem). This poem is written at the back of the Californian Wine bottle '7 Deadly Zins'.
As believers of the THE SECOND SIN, (read Gluttony), I thought it apt to share this extraordinary ode to the 7 Deadly Sins.

 7 DEADLY ZINS

I'm raging with ire, an ocean of fire,
My Wrath is the path to all I desire,
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

I'm inflated with pride, near-bursting inside,
A self-centered repenter, Vanity's bride.
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

I'm mired in mud, inert as a slug,
Sloth is the cloth that's woven my rug.
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

I eat day and night, consuming all in my sight,
A Glutton with nothing but a huge appetite.
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

My will I ignore, my Envy's chore,
Over-zealous and jealous, I want so much more.
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

I'm ravenous to feast, an insatiable beast,
I concede to the Greed demanding release.
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

I hunger for trust, my craving's a muse,
My sin is the Zin enslaving my Lust.
Oh Lord, forgive me my Zins.

SUFI @ The Kebab Terrace of TSS

TSS by Manrè witnessed an engaging performance by “Rajasthan Roots”, the musical collective, on 13th April, 2011.

The band initiated the evening revelry with serene Sufi rendition to celebrate the unveiling of the Kebab terrace. With time they gradually developed the evening with a vibrant and energetic performance. The high note was reached with their popular numbers "Kesariya Balam", "Radhe Radhe", reaching the crescendo with "Dum-a-dum mast kalandar" that had guests break out into a spontaneous dance. Hence the crowd got a load of an eclectic mix of music from this talented group of people.

Not to be forgotten in all this excitement is the delicious food selection put together by Chef Krishan Pal and his talented team. The highlights included achari gobhi, anjeer ki sami, galouti kebab, lal mirch murg tikka and tandoori prawns.

The guests were also pleasantly surprised by the selection from "Spice Water Trail", another restaurant of the Alchemist Group at M-24, GK-1 (M-Block market) that features authentic South Indian Coastal cuisine.

Guests were especially impressed with the open air Kebab Terrace and its air conditioned tents. The Second Sin General Manager, Laurent Guiraud, looked happy receiving accolades from his guests for the newest addition to TSS. He said, "It is a wonderful terrace with beautiful mashaal candle lighting, offering a variety of North Indian kebabs. Also available are hookahs/sheeshas that compliment the ambience".

The Painting : Seven Deadly Sins and The Four Last Things

The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things

Description and meaning of the painting:

The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things is a painting attributed to Hieronymus Bosch, completed around 1500 or later. The painting is oil on wood panels. The painting is presented in a series of circular images.

Four small circles, detailing "Death of the sinner", "Judgement", "Hell", and "Glory", surround a larger circle in which the seven deadly sins are depicted: wrath at the bottom, then (proceeding clockwise) envy, greed, gluttony, sloth, extravagance (later, lust), and pride in scenes from everyday life rather than allegorical representations of the sins.

At the centre of the large circle, which is said to represent the eye of God, is a "pupil" in which Christ can be seen emerging from his tomb. Below this image is the Latin inscription Cave Cave Deus Videt ("Beware, Beware, God Sees").

The Painter

Hieronymus Bosch was born Hieronymus (or Jeroen, respectively the Latin and Middle Dutch form of the name "Jerome") van Aken (meaning "from Aachen"). He signed a number of his paintings as Bosch (pronounced Boss in Middle Dutch). The name derives from his birthplace, Hertogenbosch, which is commonly called "Den Bosch".

In the twentieth century, when changing artistic tastes made artists like Bosch more palatable to the European imagination, it was sometimes argued that Bosch's art was inspired by heretical points of view as well as of obscure hermetic practices.

His depictions of sinful humanity, his conceptions of Heaven and Hell are now seen as consistent with those of late medieval didactic literature and sermons. His work is known for its use of fantastic imagery to illustrate moral and religious concepts and narratives.

The Second Sin (Gluttony) is depicted in this portrait which also forms a section of the Seven Deadly Sins painting discussed above.

Committing THE SECOND SIN @ TSS in Delhi

The Second Sin by Manré is the new avatar of Manré Restaurant in the MGF Mall, Saket. On 1st April 2011, in its first official unveiling, the restaurant opened its doors to a select gathering of eminent guests in a musical evening featuring Karen Kohler from New York, presenting a Jazz and European Cabaret performance.

Laurent Guiraud, the General Manager, when asked to comment on the launch party said, " It was such a magical moment to see our beautiful venue alive again! Senior Executive Chef Krishan Pal, the team and myself are now eager to put to use the long months of refurbishing, training and menu engineering toward our only goal: our guests' satisfaction. We are dedicated to source the best quality ingredients that compose our menus and train our team members to the highest standards of our industry so that our guest experience is unique and overwhelming. We are looking forward to welcoming you soon at The Second Sin By Manré."

Hirsch and Bedner Associates (HBA), [http://www.hbadesign.com/] the award winning international interior design firm, has worked brilliantly to transform the old Manrè into a vibrant and welcoming dining destination with its four different dining zones.

The Terrace Grill at The Second Sin (TSS) by Manrè is an open air dining venue that is just perfect for dining outside in the pleasant spring and winter months of Delhi. The Terrace Grill features an innovative menu where guests only have to choose the main course, whilst the soup and salad buffet is offered complimentary along with the dessert. Guests love the fact that they do not have to wait for food to arrive, especially when they come in hungry.

The Lounge and Bar at TSS distinguishes itself in terms of its design – open and relaxed lounge space done in light shades with beautiful ambient lighting that gives the place a feeling of joy and happiness. Not the low lighting levels of an Irish Pub or the serious dark wood paneling of a traditional bar for this place, no Sir – this is a place for fun, enjoyment and celebrations.

The Bistro at TSS is a delight for food lovers whether they are seeking a “gourmet experience” or one of pure gluttony.

TSS - The Bistro
What is a BISTRO?
“Bistro” is derived from Russian and literally means “quickly”.
Hence, it refers to a small restaurant part of a modest setting, serving moderately priced simple meals that are quick to place on the table.

And that brings us to the fourth and the final dining zone, The Kebab Terrace. Situated on the North-Eastern terrace, The Kebab Terrace, in addition to the pleasure of open air dining, offers three air conditioned tents just perfect for private dining. Offering a selection of Kebabs, curries and Indian delicacies, this is a glutton’s paradise.

It is important to pause here to answer an important question – how did this place come to be called: The Second Sin?
You see, the chefs at The Second Sin are very very serious about food. It is not just their profession; it is their passion and their obsession! Their greatest delight is observing the joy on the faces of their guests when they bite into the food from the kitchens of The Second Sin.
How could you not forgive these innocent souls from thinking that such an obsession with food – gluttony, is a noble pursuit?
And so with “Gluttony” as the inspiration, its mention in the Old Testament as the second of the seven cardinal sins led to the name: THE SECOND SIN.
